Software Pricing at Caseiro Software

Pricing. This is a much debated subject for anyone selling anything. And it seems especially challenging when making software.

When I was a kid you got software on a disk (or several of them) that came in a box with a printed manual. All that cost money to produce, ship, and keep in stock. Not to mention the cost of actually developing the software! Nowadays all that costly physical product is gone and it has been all too common for software to be offered free, with varying strategies for making money to cover the costs of development.

As someone that prefers to pay for quality products instead of being the product of ads I had originally planned on selling all of my software for a fair price. But what price could that be?

That is something I have thought a lot about since putting my first two software products up for sale a couple of years ago. I've done research, run surveys to decide on the proper pricing, and I've finally come to a conclusion. Today I'm announcing that going forward all of my software will be free, to better serve the mission of Caseiro Software.

Of course I'll have to fund the development somehow, so moving forward I'll be adding additional features that are locked behind an in app purchase and an option to donate if you find value in what I've created.

I hope that by providing my tools for free they'll provide value to more people, and do a bit of good for the world. After all, "because I have been given much, I too must give."
